To some that know I’ve had Colombo our cat for geez 18 years now, so that puts him at about 89 years human age, remarkable to say the very least. Colombo has been a very rewarding animal to have and he still is. He’s been through a lot over the years mostly watching me go through my own personal phases of life. His health is continuously deteriorating but still manages to walk around the house and even has some relaxed supervised hours in the yard by himself. Earlier in the year he had to go to the vet to have fluid removed from his chest and was diagnosed with kidney disease and heart failure, he was put on two different medications to help manage his condition and has been doing better since. Though nothing can stop the process of age he is not in any pain and still lives like a king around the house. Today I took him to the vet for an episode of vomiting and we returned now with two more medications to help him with the process of removing and processing phosphate from his body. Age and ailments will someday take him to pet heaven and he’ll be once again chasing lizards around the yard with all of the other great pets that provided to their owners. Looking back I remember when I first found him at the pet shelter, he was set to be euthenized the following day because no one wanted him, big loss to many and a great reward to me. This little guy has been at many times the saving grace to my sanity, funny as that may sound its amazing just how much comfort an animal can provide to the human race. So 18 years later Colombo sits, sleeps, eats and still manages to always make my day, even when my day sometimes was not the best to have been enjoyed.
